What makes a pattern tileable
A pattern tile must repeat seamlessly: the artwork that leaves the right edge has to re-enter on the left with the same spacing. This generator draws each motif inside a square tile sized to your setting, so tiling is exact by construction — no visible seams at any size.
Using the output
Copy the SVG markup inline, or download the file and reference it from CSS:
.hero {
background-image: url("pattern.svg");
background-size: 24px 24px;
}Inline SVG as a data URI avoids an extra request and lets you change colours per theme.
Where patterns help
- Subtle texture behind hero sections and empty states
- Grid lines behind canvas or chart areas
- Diagonal stripes for progress and skeleton states
- Brand texture at low opacity over flat colour
Performance notes
Repeating backgrounds tile on the GPU and cost one decode, not one per repetition. Keep tiles small (8–48px), avoid very low-contrast dots at high density (moiré on scaled displays), and prefer SVG over a large PNG for anything scalable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the pattern commercially?
Yes — the generated SVG is yours, no attribution needed.
Why does the pattern shimmer when scrolling?
High-frequency patterns can alias on some displays. Increase the tile size or reduce contrast slightly.
Can I animate it?
Yes — animate background-position on the element, or add a CSS animation inside the SVG for SMIL-free motion.
